Some big names showing up at the Tour of Britain this time around, with the likes of Wout van Aert, Thomas Pidcock, and Sam Bennett (10 years on from winning a stage). We sorta wish there was a mountain biking stage in here so Pidcock could wear his rainbow bands. Alas.

Prior winners listed below. No Wout van Aert to shake things up. And shake things up he certainly could. Knowing Wout, and knowing there's no absolute mountains, he could realistically win every stage.

Overall last year's race had roughly two sprint stages, one semi-slight mountain top finish and two hilly stages with some decent kickers in there to put things into perspective. You needed to be able to climb - but not incredibly so.

The same can be said for this year. With most races elevation gain for the day under 1000 meters of climbing. Stage one and stage eight, the final stage are the most difficult in terms of climbs - but nothing overly strenuous.

INEOS are showing up with a superbly strong team, which makes sense given the team's heritage. Expect them to attempt to keep Wout van Aert under control.

Dark Horses

Luke Lamperti could potentially win a stage from a sprint. Definitely don't put him down for the general classification in our opinion, but the spry twenty year old has shown his worth at the World Champs this year and likely has a shot at a stage.

Stages

Stage 1

Elevation: 1988m

Apparently a category one climb in Britain is 1.3km @ 9.1%. We're not saying that's not challenging, but just a little surprising.

Stage 2

Elevation: 742m

Stage 3

Elevation: 694m

Stage 4

Elevation: 927m

Stage 5

Elevation: 974m

Stage 6

Elevation: 840m

Stage 7

Elevation: 1841m

Stage 8

Elevation: 2503m

A nice banger of a finish with the riders having to climb Caerphilly twice at the end. Wout van Aert will likely have GC locked up at this point but if he doesn't he can easily make it over these climbs.
