Shorthands & Acronyms in Pro Cycling
Just like in a large company, the use of short hands and acronyms is prevalent to quickly name teams and riders across the peloton. Here are a few of the need to know acronyms and colloquialism to pick up to make you instantly seem a pro peloton punter:
- Clock - nickname for Ben Turner. Popularized by Latern Rouge Cycling Podcast
- Moho - nickname for Matej Mohorič
- IGC - acronym for Iván García Cortina
- SKA - acronym for Søren Kragh Andersen
- TJV - acronym for Team Jumbo Visma
- IPT - acronym for team Israel Premier Tech
- LS - acronym for team Lotto Soudal
- Bini - nickname for Biniam Girmay
- IWG - old acronym for Intermarché Circus Wanty (now ICW)
- GVA - acronym for Greg Van Avermaet
- TDF - acronym for Tour de France
- Dumo - nickname for Tom Dumoulin
- DVB - acronym for Dylan van Baarle
- Pog - nickname for Tadej Pogačar
- VG - acronym for Jonas Vingegaard
- TTT - acronym for Team Time Trial. A style of race.
- Dom - shorthand for Domestiqué (a rider who rides to support their leader)
- GT - acronym for Grand Tour (a type of race, of which their are three: the Giro, Vuelta and Tour de France)
- G - nickname for Geraint Thomas
- VC - acronym for Victor Campenaerts
- PCS - Pro Cycling Stats (aka our Bible)
- s.t. - same time (also "" - used to indicate riders will receive the same time in the GC based on their position)
